The Lowcountry reveals itself slowly —
in the turn of a heron, the gold of
spartina at first light.
“In wildness is the preservation of the world.”

Photographs from the marshes, waterways, and wildlife of Beaufort County, South Carolina. Each image is available as a limited edition fine art print, hand-signed by the artist.

The Lowcountry has a way of finding you — and keeping you. The light on the marsh at dawn, the quiet of a tidal creek at low water, the particular way Spanish moss moves in a salt breeze. There are places in the world that get inside you, and this is one of them.
Beaufort and the sea islands, the rivers and the coast of South Carolina — this is the landscape that holds my attention completely. The wildlife, the light, the architecture, the people — all of it. These photographs are an attempt to pay attention to what this place offers to anyone willing to slow down and look.
There is nothing quite like the Lowcountry. The ancient live oaks, the Spanish moss, the tidal marshes, the barrier islands, the ocean — it is a place of extraordinary quiet and extraordinary life, sometimes in the same moment. The wildlife here moves through a landscape that has remained largely unchanged for centuries.
These photographs are made in that landscape, with patience, and with deep respect for what it offers. It is the artist’s intention to convey the raw and majestic beauty of the Lowcountry — and the hope that through this work, you will feel some part of what makes this place impossible to leave.
